The first Musical Meeting Space of the Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation for the year 2017 was held on 13-15 October 2017 at University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo. The session carried out the theme of Folk Traditions around the Life Cycle (from birth to death).
The performances were encapsulated with different regions of Sri Lanka, focused on their specific folk music and these events were represented by the participated students from the Universities of Jaffna, Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo and Peradeniya along with the Eastern University and Swamy Vipulananda Centre for Aesthetic Studies, Batticaloa.
during the program an important lecture about folk music and peace was conducted by Prof. P.D.R Fernando.
The Musical Space further provided a preliminary space for learning and after two days of rehearsal, the student collaboratively performed their final outcomes to the audience consists of the staff and the students of all the participated universities
The final performance summed up diverse cultural and national musical aspects of Sri Lanka and the songs of Sinhalese and Tamil were performed along with the traditional instrumental music provided by the same student group.
The event was hosted by the Sevalanka Foundation under Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation and the performances of this Musical Space- 01 were supervised by Kalasuri Deshanethru Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan.
The basic objectives of the Musical Meeting Space of the Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation is to train the students in performances, understanding the traditions of the ethnic groups in Sri Lanka and create meaningful University network within the country.

HARMONIOUS EXPRESSION 2017

An extravagant exhibition of musical talents unfolded at the annual concert, “HARMONIOUS EXPRESSIONS” organized by the Department of Western Music. It was held on the 29th of November at the Lionel Edirisinghe Rostrum . The students of the Department of Western Music took the stage with confidence through a lineup of a variety of a performances which included the university orchestra, choir (Evolution), musical ensembles incorporating piano, saxophone, violoncello, and flute; and a ballet. The Dean of the faculty, Prof. Kolitha Bhanu Dissanayake was one of the distinguished invitees to this memorable musical evening.
