Profile:

Prof. (Dr.) Ruwin Dias is currently working as a senior lecturer in the Department of North Indian music attached to the Faculty of Music at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts. Apart from his primary role as a Senior Lecturer, he is also working as the Director of Career Guidance Unit attached to the University. Furthermore, he is the principal researcher & coordinator in the STEM+HEMS music therapy research project funded by world bank at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts collaborating with the University of Peradeniya, University of Ruhuna, and the University of Colombo (2019-2021).

As a researcher, the finding of his research has been published in many national and international research conferences and journals in the areas of ethnomusicology, film music, music therapy, cultural studies, teaching methods in music and social psychology. Further, he has been supervising several MA, MPhil, and Ph.D. students both in the university and externally. He is a founder member in the Master of Music degree program in University of Kalaniya and has conducted lectures on North Indian violin (practical) & on Music composition for five batches.
He worked as a resource person for many government organizations, including the Ministry of Education and the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka as a chief examiner, selection committee member, lecturer and etc. As a composer, he has composed music for films, teledramas, stage shows, and composed songs for the popular music industry. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field and recently, he has composed music for two Sri Lankan films, namely, “”Aladine saha Puduma Pahana”” and “”Akasa Paalama”

Ethnomusicology, Film music, Applied music, Music therapy, Cultural studies, Teaching methods in music and Social psychology.
