Abstract & Proposal Submission

The International Conference on Music (ICM) 2026 of the Faculty of Music, organized by the C.de S Kulathilake Archival and Research Unit will provide an opportunity for undergraduate students of the University of Visual and Performing Arts and other Universities of Sri Lanka to present their work in a scholarly setting to the faculty and other representatives of the University. This Conference aims to motivate and create a platform for students to conduct research and present their findings. For this, supplementary workshops will be conducted to aid them. To further develop their research-based writing and communication skills and to inculcate the importance of team work. Finally, it is expected to further the research culture formed within the Faculty of Music through this Conference. We are planning to hold the Conference on the 14th of December 2026, in commemoration of Mr. C. De S. Kulathilake’s Memorial Day at the Faculty of Music premises. Depending on the number of abstracts submitted and the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Music, the Conference can be extended for two days as well if required. Undergraduate students from the below mentioned disciplines are invited to present their research and creative work for the Conference.

Presentation Guidelines

The International Conference on Music (ICM) 2026 provides an inclusive platform for students to present and communicate their research to an audience representing diverse academic and aesthetic backgrounds.

Participants may present their research in one of the following formats:

Oral Presentations
Poster Presentations

Presentations will be conducted onsite or via online platforms, as determined by the Steering Committee, taking into consideration prevailing circumstances and logistical factors such as electricity, financial constraints, and fuel availability.

Presenters are permitted to deliver their presentations in Sinhala or English, ensuring accessibility and effective communication with a wider audience.

Oral Presentations (Power Point)

Each oral presentation is allocated 20 minutes: 15 minutes for presentation, 3 minutes for questions and discussion, and 2 minutes for transition to the next presenter.

Presenters are required to deliver their presentation using a PowerPoint slideshow, where applicable.

A multimedia projector and screen will be provided. Presenters are advised to ensure that all audio, video, or specialized media files are tested in advance for compatibility.

Performance-based presentations (e.g., vocal or instrumental demonstrations) are encouraged where relevant to the research. Such performances should be clearly integrated with the research content
