SRS 2025 Overview

Welcome to the Student Research Symposium (SRS) 2025 of the Faculty of Music, organized by the C.de S Kulathilake Archival and Research Unit will be held on 14th December 2025 will provide an opportunity for students in the University of the Visual and Performing Arts and other Universities in Sri Lanka to present their work in a scholarly setting to the faculty and other representatives of the University.

Purpose of the Symposium

SRS 2025 aims to motivate and create a platform for students to conduct research and present their findings with expecting to uplift the research culture within the Faculty of Music and the University.

Prof. Rohan Nethsinghe
Vice Chancellor - University of the Visual and Performing Arts

PhD (Monash University), MFA/BFA (Donetsk Conservatory, USSR), GradDipEd (Sec), BEd (H1) (Monash University), Dip in TAE, Dip in VET Prac, Dip VET (Chisholm TAFE, Australia).

Laureate of international Jazz music festivals and competitions, Dr Rohan Nethsinghe is a Professor in Creative Arts Education, currently the Vice Chancellor of the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka. Rohan has more than twenty five years of performing, teaching and researching experience in international contexts and has worked as a teacher in Australian schools (p-12) and in the higher education sector. As a phenomenologist Rohan publishes in scholarly journals and presents his research nationally and internationally in Creative Arts Education, STEAM/Arts Integration, Music Education, Community Music, and Higher Education. His research in Multicultural Music Education has contributed to the enhancement of the scholarship in teaching and learning and he has won prestigious awards for his work in teacher education. Rohan is interested in understanding how Arts Education contributes to human development and the effects of applied/authentic learning (WIL).
