The Student Research Symposium (SRS) 2025 of the Faculty of Music, organized by the C.de S Kulathilake Archival and Research Unit will provide an opportunity for undergraduate students of the University of Visual and Performing Arts and other Universities of Sri Lanka to present their work in a scholarly setting to the faculty and other representatives of the University. This symposium aims to motivate and create a platform for students to conduct research and present their findings. For this, supplementary workshops will be conducted to aid them. To further develop their research-based writing and communication skills and to inculcate the importance of team work. Finally, it is expected to further the research culture formed within the Faculty of Music through this symposium. We are planning to hold the symposium on the 14th of December 2025, in commemoration of Mr. C. De S. Kulathilake’s Memorial Day at the Faculty of Music premises. Depending on the number of abstracts submitted and the approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Music, the symposium can be extended for two days as well if required. Undergraduate students from the below mentioned disciplines are invited to present their research and creative work for the symposium.

The symposium is an opportunity for students to communicate their research to an audience from a broad range of aesthetic background. Students may present their research as an oral or poster session onsite (or via online) as decided by the steering committee according to the current situation, with considerations given to aspects such as electricity, financial issues and fuel. The language medium for presentations may be Sinhala or English.
Oral presentations commence every 20 minutes (15 minutes for presenting, 3 minutes for questions, and 2 minutes to transition to the next presenter). A multimedia projector and screen will be available for the presenters. Out of professional courtesy, all presenters and audience are expected to stay for the entire session. Presentation schedules will be strictly enforced.
Authors of posters are to put up their posters before the commencement of the symposium and take them down towards the end of the symposium. Authors must stay by their posters throughout the duration that they are hung up so that the viewers can direct questions to them. Posters should be clearly visible from about 2 meters distance. Further guidelines on the canvas sizes, font sizes and effectively planning the space of the poster will be announced through workshops
