Department of Low Country Dance

The Low Country Dance department consist of two courses. They are low country dance and ancillary arts courses. Certainly, local and foreign dance graduates who are well versed in low country dance traditions. The main purpose of these course is to produce graduates who are well versed in dance and allied disciplines.

About Us

The institute of Aesthetics, was a subsidiary of the university of Kelaniya, became a full fledged university under the name of the university of visual and performing arts . Then, the previous department of dance was established as the faculty of dance and drama and seven departments were established under the faculty of dance and drama.

The department of low country dance was designed as the main subject for the students studying low country dance.

Initially, only a limited number of students were admitted to the department. Later , the existing syllabus introduced new unit such as, creative dance production project, study dramatic event in low country rituals, techniques of acrobatic dance, subject related vocational training.

And with the improvement of the academic facilities the number of students enrolled in our department increased.
