Profile:

Chandralal Amarakoon is a senior lecturer of Tabla (music) in the department of North Indian Music. He joined the department in 1998 as a tabla accompanist. He is also a tabla artist in the classical and light fields of music. He received his BFA(hons) in Music (tabla) from the University of the visual and performing arts, Sri Lanka and the M.mus in tabla from the Benaras Hindu University, India. He worked as a visiting lecturer in Tabla at the department on Language and cultural studies and Performing Arts in the university of Sri Jayawaradhanapura from 2010 to 2014. Chandralal also worked as a visiting lecturer in tabla in post graduate degree course of the department of Fine arts in the university of Kelaniya from 2012 to 2019. He received an ‘A’ grade as a tabla player from the broadcasting corporation of Sri Lanka. Chandralal held the HOD post in the department of Western Music (UVPA) from 2017 to 2019. He has participated in many concerts as a tablist in Sri Lanka as well as overseas.
