Profile:

Pavithra has read for a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Special) degree in Western Music at  the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2011. She has served in the  capacity of visiting lecturer at the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo in 2012,  2020 also at the University of Moratuwa respectively from 2013 up to date. She is continuing her  teaching proficiency at the University of Moratuwa at the department of Computer science,  Electrical Engineering and Material science. As the result of her higher enthusiasm on teaching  she started her professional career at the University of Visual and Performing Arts as a  probationary lecturer in 01st of January 2021.She has received several accolades as a pianist and  singer in western and Indian classical music at both local and international competitions. Pavithra  was an all-island winner on piano solo and singing categories at the Sri Lankan Music Festival  which is affiliated to the British and International federation of festivals in music dance & speech  (U.K), a gold medalist and Champion at Asian Pacific Choir games in 2017 and All-Island prize  winner of pianoforte performance in Thames’s valley University London.  

She has also performed at many leading musical events as a pianist. Some of such events  include Piano performance at the “All Island Highest Scored Concert ” for highest marks awarded  by Thames Valley University, London obtained in Sri Lanka for Diploma Level in March 2015 at  Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo. Choir performance at the Final day of the Asian Pacific  Choir games in 2017 when Celebrating the Championship. Piano ensemble performance entitled  “Musical Potpourri” in 2014 presented by “Unikeys’’ (Piano ensemble of University of Visual and  Performing Arts) at Russian Culture Center – Colombo. 

Her professional interests are piano teaching methods and research on biomechanics in  pianists. She is currently applying for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Higher 

Diplomas on Piano and Western Music theory where she continues to contribute her teaching  and musical proficiency. 

Research Interests:

Her professional research interests focus on effective piano teaching and learning methods,  biomechanics in pianists, performance anxieties, Blended learning Platforms.  

Awards:

  1. All island prize winner on piano solo and singing categories at the Sri Lankan Music Festival  which is affiliated to the British and International federation of festivals in music dance & speech.  (2009-2010) 
  2. All Island prize winner of Diploma in Performance (Piano) awarded by London College of Music  Examination in Thames Valley University- London (2015) 

Achievements:

  1. Gold medalist and Champions of 4th Asia pacific Choir Games in 2017 (Prestantia Chorale – Soprano) 
  2. Awarded second place at Festival of Choirs presented by the Institute of Western Music and  Speech Sri Lanka in 2010 (Evolution Choir – Alto) 
  3. Placed second as the best speaker at the “English Oratory final level of the diploma in English”  at Aquinas College of higher studies in 2007.
