Profile:

Mr.Ravindra Alagiyawanna was born to Mr.Gunawardhana Alagiyawanna & Mrs. A.G Indrawathie his respected parents. He was born in Matale. His home town Polonnaruwa, Jayantipura. He attended Bakamoona Mahasen Central College up to Ordinary Level then he chose to continue for Advanced Levels in Girithalegama Maha Vidyalaya.During the days of schooling he came to know about his skills in music with the help of aesthetics teachers of his school.So he participated many competitions,Art Fests as well as school societies.Mrs.Pushpamali Abeywardhane is a special iconic character of his life as she is the guider of music for him.In other word she is like the second mother to him.She recognized his skills of both vocal and instrumenting,kept forwarding he on his goal. During the Advanced Level sessions he pursued music under Mrs.Indrani Wijelatha.She helped him to apply for Bellwood Aesthetic Centre,Kandy under national Youth Council.That was a major point of his life as he could complete Visharad Examinations & Gandharwa final examinations at there.He was in the musical band called “Yowun Gee” covering many concerts all across the country.So the shame and fear of singing vanished thanks to the experience of being with the band.

In the year 2002 he got the admission to University of Visual & Performing Arts.At there he came to know Mr.Nalaka Bandara ,Senior Lecturer in Vocal during the first year.He was kind enough to teach every aspects and methods of singing regarding North Indian Classical Music.Then Mr.K.P.Gunasena Senior Lecturer,during second year helped him a lot to improve his Academic work.Then Mr.Kolitha Bhanu Dissanayake,professor, has been the guider in teaching such a great methods which were very valuble for his future. He even follow those methods today. He completed his Bachelor of Performing Arts (special) degree in 2007 and joined the Indian And Asian Dance Department, Faculty of Dance and Drama as a external accompanist on harmonium(Kathak Dance) in May 2007.Then he got a great opportunity to join as the external lecturer( Vocal) in Department of North Indian Music,Faculty of Music in October 2007.

He participated a realtity Show called “Rajatha Rashmi” organized by Srilanka Rupavahini Corporation in 2007 & awarded the first place under the judgment of great musicians.
Then he joined the same department as a temporary lecturer in University of Visual and Performing Arts in 2008. Then became the probationary lecturer in 2010.Also he would like to mention about the period he pursued Masters Degree in India.He joined Banaras Hindu University,Varanasi.At there he got first division and completed M.Mus in vocal degree 2013,under the supervision of Prof.Ritwik Sanyal, Dr.Gyanesh Chandra Pandey, Prof.Sarayu R.Sonni, Prof.Sharada Velankar, Dr.Sangeetha Pandit, Dr.Chanchal, Dr.Ramshankar. Also he pursued private tuitions under Pt.Ganesh Prasad Mishara.Life of india changed his singing carrier as the accurate way of practicing and voice culturing made a remarkable improvement.
Ravindra Alagiyawanna currently is attached to the Department of North Indian Music as a Senior Lecturer (Grade II) at University of the Visual and Performing Arts.

North Indian Music, Ethnomusicology, History, Music Therapy, Applied Music.
